Based on the program you enroll in, there are different Microsoft certification requirements. Naturally, the program that you choose will be related to the type of career path you have planned. In this article, I will talk about the different requirements related to some specific Microsoft certification programs.

Microsoft certification for IT professionals -- there are a variety of different programs that allow you to focus on your field of expertise and establish yourself as an authority. Here you can choose between getting certified as a business intelligence developer, consumer support technician, database developer, database administrator, enterprise messaging administrator, enterprise project management and enterprise support technician.

If you were to complete the program for Microsoft certified database administrator, you would first have to pass three prerequisite exams and an elective exam. These are used to measure your current technical expertise as it relates to SQL database administration.

For example, you would have to take exams on administration, design, and an exam either one Windows 2000 server or Windows server 2003. The elective exam that you have to take would be related to one of several specific Microsoft server products, again to demonstrate your expertise.

To get Microsoft certification as a consumer support technician, you have two complete two exams. One exam is a prerequisite exam relating to Windows vista, and one exam is for the professional series. These exams relate to configuration, and supporting a troubleshooting different applications in Windows vista.

To get certification as a Microsoft database developer you have to first complete a SQL Server 2005 credential exam. If you pass this, then you will be required to take two more exams. These exams relate to designing and optimizing access to data in Microsoft SQL Server 2005, and implementing and maintaining a Microsoft SQL Server.

To get certification as an enterprise messaging administrator, you would have to successfully complete three exams. The prerequisite exam is on Microsoft exchange server 2007. The professional series exams relate to designing messaging solutions for Microsoft exchange server 2007.

To get certification as an enterprise support technician, you are required to successfully complete two exams. The first exam is the Windows vista prerequisite exam, and the second exam relates to supporting troubleshooting applications on Microsoft Windows vista client, as it relates to enterprise support technicians.
